Connecting Plaza conexión is a group of interactive sculptures connected one to each other through internet. The visitors complete the work of art: their body weight turns on a device which lifts a cylinder somewhere else. Web cams take snapshots if two persons stand simultaneously on the connected spots; this picture is saved and can be visualized in the projects web site.

The aim of Connecting PLAZA Conexión is to bring together communities of the world.

Humanity has been historically communicated through water (oceans), through air (atmosphere) and nowadays through internet thanks to fiber optic, wireless and satellite networks.

Joaquin Fargas is interested on the new ways in which people connect to each others involving new technologies.
To aim this goal Internet will me used as a medium for people to communicate and interact. The basic structure is formed by two circules tangencially connected which represent the infinite simbol or Moebius Belt.

Each circle has a different function; one is to step on and works as a big button which triggers a remote action. The second one is a telescopic tower that will rise to its maximum size when somebody stands on the correspondent remote button.

Each basic unit has a web cam that sends the image to Connection PLAZA Conexión site.
The two basic units combined form a pair which connects two close or far away spot on the planet in a bidirectional way. The images obtained with the web cam will show the two involved persons together.

The circles on the floor are connected to other places through internet. When somebody stands on the button, a short telescope cylinder rises in that other place, establishing a connection.

If the tower in front of the button where a person is standing rises, it means that somebody else is standing in the correspondent connected place, making this connection a bidirectional one.

This means that two persons have established a non conventional communication because video and audio are not involved.

Each time the basic structures establish a bidirectional contact, a photo of each one of the participants is saved and filed in internet for the people to see afterwards.
One of the interactive sculptures could be placed, for example, in Buenos Aires, while another could be in Paris, connecting both spots in the world.

Every 5 seconds the live images where a Connecting PLAZA Conexión is placed will be refresh.

Each connection would be accessible in more detail. Including the day and time in which they where taken. Participants will have an access code that will let them send a mail to their foreign pair, widening the connection.

The web site will have a first page where all the cities involved in Connecting PLAZA Conexión will be visualized. In this case: Buenos Aires and Black Rock.
A button will link to a new page where all the pictures taken during a certain time when a bidireccional connection had been established would be access.
